RCI - Canadian Prairies Chapter Presents a Series of Lunch 'n Learns.

In December of 2017, the Canadian Prairies Chapter of RCI, Inc. had begun the continuation of our series of Lunch 'n Learn talks exploring topics relevant to our industry and providing a forum for discussion among the attendees.  Thus far, we have presented talks on "Wind Uplift Testing Methods" and "Photovoltaic Installations", with attendance at both talks exceeding our initial expectations.  Hosted at the Canadian Croatian Club in Calgary, both of our Lunch 'n Learn events provided our attendees with an opportunity to hear our presenters speak on their experiences about the topics at hand. There was also an opportunity to ask questions that arose during the presentations leading to further discussion.  In addition to the talk and resultant Q&A, attendees were provided lunch by the friendly staff at the Canadian Croatian Club, and we hope those in attendance came away from the experience satisfied by what they had learned.

Thursday December 15th's "Lunch 'n Learn" topic was on "Wind Uplift Test Methods."  The presentation included a review of FM 1-52, ASTM E907, and ANSI SPRI with pictures and discussion of the presenters' experiences conducting the tests on various projects in Calgary.  The talk was co-presented by Stephen Baxter, RRO of Baxter Roof Consulting Ltd. and Porter Temple of Royal Adhesives.

Thursday January 18th's "Lunch 'n Learn" topic was on Photovoltaic Installations.  This included procedures and practices the Roof Consultant might follow to ease the application of photovoltaic cells on new and existing roofs.  The talk was presented by Geoff Domenico of KCP Energy.

RCI - Canadian Prairies Chapter would like to thank Stephen, Porter, and Geoff for taking time out of their busy schedules to present these talks and to hopefully provide those in attendance with valuable insights into these topics.  We would also like to thank all of those who attended these Lunch 'n Learns and making the talks the successes they were, and for making our presenters feel welcome with their active engagement and questions.

We have already sent out the notifications for the next talk in our series of Lunch 'n Learns slated for Thursday, February 15th on "Structural Renovations."  This talk will focus on common mistakes that are made involving the structure when re-roofing, and a brief overview of the methods and tools used when engineering the solutions.  The talk will include case studies of structural repairs that were found, or resolved, during re-roofs.  This talk is being presented by Arvid Anvek, P.Eng. of ADEM Engineering.  The early registration response indicates this will be another well attended presentation.  If you haven't registered yet, you can do so here.

If there are any topics that our members might wish to hear, please do not hesitate to contact us with your suggestions.
